Law enforcement agencies arrested 12 leaders and activists of the Awami League in Moulvibazar district under Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2.
The arrests were made during drives conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The information was confirmed on Thursday afternoon by Mohammad Billal Hossain, a police official, through a press release issued by the office of the Moulvibazar Superintendent of Police.
Those arrested include Dr Haripada Roy, vice-president of Sreemangal Upazila Awami League; Md Sazzadur Rahman, acting president of Awami League’s Ekantuna Union (Ward No 6) under Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila; Abdul Nur Gulu, secretary of Mansurpur Union Awami League (Ward No 8) under Rajnagar Upazila; Faisal Mahmud, also known as Faisal Uddin, education, training and library affairs secretary of Juri Upazila Awami League; Jamsed Khan, a leader of Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila Awami League; Amir Hossain, joint general secretary of Baralekha Sadar Union Jubo League; Chandan Kurmi, joint president of Islampur Union Jubo League under Kamalganj Upazila; Imon Ahmed and Tahsin Hasan Bijoy, activists of Kulaura Chhatra League; Ismail Hossain Rajan, an Awami League activist from Sreemangal; and Ashok Debbarma, a Jubo League activist from Phultala Union under Juri Upazila.
Police said the operation will continue as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful environment ahead of the national election.
