Bangladesh Railway will run 20 special trains across 10 routes on December 25 to manage travel for leaders, workers, and supporters on the occasion of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s return to the country.
In addition, extra carriages will be attached to several regular trains to accommodate the expected surge in passengers. However, three short-distance commuter services will be temporarily suspended on the same day, the Railway said.
The announcement came Monday in a press release by Rezaul Karim Siddiqui, senior information officer of the Ministry of Railways.
According to the release, BNP central and regional offices requested the special trains and additional carriages to ensure smooth movement for party leaders and supporters, prompting the Railway to make the arrangements.
The special trains will run on routes including Cox’s Bazar–Dhaka, Khulna–Dhaka, Rajshahi–Dhaka, Jashore–Dhaka, Tangail–Dhaka, Panchagarh–Dhaka, Jamalpur–Mymensingh–Dhaka, Bhairab Bazar–Narsingdi–Dhaka, Chatmohar–Dhaka Cantonment, and Joydebpur–Dhaka Cantonment.
The Railway expects the special services to generate around BDT 3.6 million in revenue. Authorities urged passengers to bear with temporary inconveniences due to the suspended commuter trains and stressed that all operations will strictly follow the Election Code of Conduct–2025.
