Bangladesh is set to observe a period of mourning from Wednesday to Friday for former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, during which all fireworks and firecrackers will be strictly prohibited in the Dhaka Metropolitan areas.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued several directives for the capital city.

In a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali on Tuesday, the cooperation of the city’s residents in adhering to these directives has been earnestly requested.

The release of sky lanterns and gas balloons will also be forbidden. Additionally, no cultural programs, DJ parties, rallies, or processions are to be held in open spaces.

The public is further instructed to refrain from honking car horns excessively or engaging in any activities that may cause public disturbance.

The notice also mentions that on Wednesday, following the Juhr prayers, Begum Khaleda Zia’s janaza will be held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. Her body will subsequently be laid to rest beside the grave of Ziaur Rahman.
