At least three people, including a woman, were killed and at least ten others injured in a clash over a land dispute at Dhaniganj Gagla area of Santoshpur union under Nageshwari upazila in Kurigram on Sunday.

According to media sources, the incident occurred around 11:30am between followers of Altaf Hossain and Ershad Ali over a disagreement regarding 16 decimals of land.

The deceased are Ershad Ali, 42, son of Manik Munshi, Kulsum Begum, 55, Manik’s sister, and Kawser Mia, son of Baccha Mia.

Two died on the spot, while one succumbed on the way to the hospital.

According to police and local sources, the dispute escalated into a violent confrontation with both sides attacking each other using homemade weapons.

At least ten injured individuals were admitted to Nageshwari Upazila Health Complex and other hospitals. Among them, Nur Mohammad and his elder brother are in critical condition.

Confirming the matter, Nageshwari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Karim said that the clash occurred due to a land dispute.

Police arrived promptly to control the situation, and additional forces have been deployed in the area to avert any kind of untoward situation, the OC added.
