A Dhaka court on Monday ordered a five-day remand for Saheda Parvin Samia, wife of prime suspect Faisal Karim Masud Daud, his brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed, and another accused, Maria Akter Lima, in connection with the attempted murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8.
Inspector Faisal Ahmed of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) presented the accused before the court and requested a seven-day remand for interrogation. After the hearing, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam granted a five-day remand for each of the accused.
The case was filed on Sunday by Abdullah Al Jaber, secretary of Inquilab Mancha, at Paltan Model Police Station. Charges include criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, intentional grievous harm with dangerous weapons, and aiding criminal acts.
According to the complaint, Hadi, who was injured during the July Uprising, later became spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha and frequently criticised the Awami League, attracting threats on social media. Ahead of the 13th parliamentary election, he began campaigning as an independent candidate for Dhaka-8.
The attack occurred on Friday, December 12, when two assailants on a motorcycle shot at Hadi at close range near Box Culvert Road, Paltan, after Jummah prayers, as he was heading toward Suhrawardy Udyan. He sustained gunshot wounds to the head and below the right ear. Hadi was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital in critical condition. On Monday, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment.
CCTV footage reportedly shows the assailants firing at Hadi, raising serious security concerns for his family and political associates.
