The Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal has sentenced four accused to death for gang-raping a young woman in Barisal.

Md Rakibul Islam, judge of the Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal, gave the verdict in the presence of the three accused and the absconding one on Sunday afternoon. 

At the same time, each of them was fined Tk100,000.

The convicts are Russell Gazi, Rajib Jamaddar, Zahid Hossain Hawlader and Khokon Khan alias Rokon Mia.

Among them, Khokon Khan remains absconding.

All four accused are residents of the Dhan Gabeshana Road area of ​​Barisal city, said Court Bench Assistant Azibur Rahman.

State lawyer Abdul Mannan Mridha of the Women and Child Repression Prevention Court said that the woman, 18, who was raped, is the wife of one Masum Hawlader of Barisal city.

On November 10, 2016, the woman left her home with Tk100,000 and was going to Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) on a three-wheeler.

When she got into an auto rickshaw with other disguised co-passengers, the driver took her somewhere else.

When she shouted, the four men beat her up. Later, they took her to the forest in Christians Para in the Trish-Godown area of the city and raped her in turn.

The next morning, her family, who had rescued her, admitted her to SBMCH.

The next day of the incident, the rape survivor filed a case with the Kotwali Model police station as a plaintiff and named four people as defendants.

Later, Ataur Rahman, police inspector of Barisal Kotwali police station, submitted a charge sheet to the court on November 23, 2017.
