Eight organizations have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Rangamati Hill District Council, demanding that assistant primary school teachers be recruited in proportion to the population.
A memorandum was submitted to the Chairman of the District Council through its members Minhaj Murshid and Habib Azam today.
The organizations in the memorandum urged the suspension of the recruitment test scheduled for 14 November 2025, citing irregularities and misinformation in the recruitment process under the council’s transferred primary education department.
The ongoing recruitment process for assistant teachers is entirely unilateral and discriminatory, leaders of the organizations said, adding that the job circular issued by the District Council did not mention any quotas, upazila-based quotas, or the number of vacant posts. Despite a government directive setting a 7% quota, they said, Rangamati Hill District Council allegedly ignored the instruction and proceeded with a 70% tribal and 30% Bengali recruitment ratio, a practice reportedly consistent with previous recruitments under the current council.
Leaders warned that if their demands are not met, they would call for a blockade to halt the recruitment test.
The memorandum was signed by Nirmal Barua, President of the Biplobi Workers Party (Rangamati), Mohammad Solaiman, President of the Hill Tracts Citizens Council (Rangamati), Maulana Abu Bakar Siddique, President of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish (Rangamati Branch), Md Shahidul Islam, Joint Coordinator of the National Citizen Party, Md Kamal Uddin, President of the Hill Tracts Sama Adhikar Andolan (Rangamati), Wahiduzzaman Roman, Member Secretary of Gana Adhikar Parishad (Rangamati) and Md Tajul Islam, President of the Hill Tracts Student Council (Rangamati District).
