A covered van overturned on the airport-bound lane of the capital’s Elevated Expressway on Monday morning, causing severe traffic congestion on the route.

Commuters travelling toward the airport, Uttara, and adjoining areas faced prolonged suffering due to the gridlock.

Assistant Commissioner of the DMP’s Traffic Department (Airport Zone), Hasibur Rahman, said that the accident occurred around 10:30am when the covered van lost control and overturned, disrupting vehicular movement on the airport-bound lane of the expressway.

While he could not confirm whether there were any casualties, Hasibur Rahman said that efforts were underway to remove the vehicle from the road.

“Traffic is expected to ease shortly, and the situation will return to normal,” he added.

Meanwhile, the congestion on this crucial route has caused significant inconvenience, particularly for domestic and international air passengers.

Concerns have been raised over whether outbound passengers will be able to reach the airport in time for their scheduled flights.
