At least six individuals were killed when a truck rammed a CNG-run autorickshaw in Kabirhat upazila of Noakhali district on Tuesday afternoon.

According to media sources, the tragic incident occurred at around 1 PM in front of Alia Madrasa on the Basurhat Road under Kabirhat municipality.

The deceased were identified as CNG driver Khokon, 46, and passengers Tanim Hasan, 26, Md Sumon, 33 and Shahadat Hossain, 36. Two others, including a woman, could not be identified immediately.

According to police and witnesses, a CNG-run autorickshaw carrying five passengers left Maijdee for Basurhat around noon. As it reached Alia Madrasa area, the vehicle’s front axle reportedly broke, causing it to lose control and slide into the opposite lane. At that moment, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction ran over the autorickshaw, dragging it a long distance.

Four individuals, including the driver, died on the spot, while two others were rushed to Noakhali General Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.

Kabirhat Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Shaheen Mia confirmed the incident and said that the truck driver fled the scene but the vehicle has been seized.
