A four-day winter book fair organized by Dhaka University Dawah Circle commenced on Thursday, at the Payra Chattar of the Student-Teacher Center at Dhaka University.
The fair was inaugurated by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, who attended as the chief guest.
Also present at the opening ceremony were Professor Dr Md Sanaullah, chairman of the Department of Islamic Studies; Professor Dr Md Abu Sayem, chairman of the Department of World Religions and Culture and Professor Md Kamrul Hassan from the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan said that the primary mission of Dhaka University is the production and dissemination of knowledge for society. In this regard, book fairs serve as a key catalyst.
Expressing gratitude to everyone involved in organizing the book fair, he noted that the university administration always encourages such initiatives. He said that Dhaka University will support anyone who contributes to the production and distribution of knowledge, regardless of race, religion or ethnicity.
Describing the book fair as a universal program, he emphasized the need to spread this initiative among everyone.
Following the inauguration, the vice-chancellor visited various stalls at the book fair. The fair features author-reader sessions, discussion forums, Quran recitation, quiz competitions, free distribution of tree saplings, and various other programs.
28 publishing houses have stalls at the book fair. The fair will conclude on Sunday. It will remain open daily from 10am to 9pm
