Assailants shot dead 45-year-old expatriate Sohel Hawlader in Khulna on Thursday night, hitting him with eight bullets.
The incident occurred around 8:30pm near Manik Sardar’s sand field in Rahimnagar village under Noihati Union of Purba Rupsa.
The deceased, Sohel Hawlader, son of Rustam Hawlader of Rahimnagar village, had recently returned home after working for several years in Saudi Arabia.
According to police and local sources, Sohel was returning home from Noihati Bazar when a group of youths intercepted him near his house and opened fire. He died on the spot.
Hearing the gunshots, locals rushed to the scene, but the attackers fled. Sohel is survived by his wife and a son.
Rupsa police station Inspector (Investigation) Abdur Sabur Khan said Sohel had gone out to buy bread and yogurt when the incident occurred.
A drive is underway to uncover the motive behind the killing and arrest those involved.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupsa police station Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman said the body has been sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
