An Ansar member has been dismissed after being caught stealing mobile phones from the import cargo complex at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party confirmed the dismissal in a press release signed by Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Md Ashiquzzaman on Friday.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, security personnel of Biman Bangladesh Airlines detained the Ansar member, identified as Jenarul, while he was trying to exit through Gate 8 of the airport.

According to a Biman Bangladesh Airlines security official, Jenarul was stopped while leaving the burned section of the cargo village carrying 15 mobile phones. The phones were later found hidden inside his shoes.

The press release stated that Jenarul Islam was on duty during the night shift from 10:30pm Wednesday to 6:30am Thursday. During his shift, he attempted to steal several button phones from the burnt debris of a fire-damaged building within the cargo village. He was caught red-handed at the scene.

Considering the gravity of the incident, he was immediately and permanently dismissed from service for gross misconduct.

The release further added that by taking swift disciplinary action, the force has set an example. Although such actions have reduced some long-standing unethical practices, psychological monitoring within the force has been further strengthened to eliminate them entirely.
