A fire at a cotton warehouse in Tongi, Gazipur, was brought under control after one and a half hours. Firefighters from Tongi Fire Service, Uttara, and Gazipur Modern Fire Service worked with eight units and managed to control the fire at 1:35pm on Saturday after continuous efforts.

The fire broke out around 12pm on Saturday at a large cotton warehouse in the Mill Gate area on Tongi Station Road. The flames spread to seven nearby warehouses.

Gazipur Fire Service Deputy Director Mohammad Mamun said the fire started at the cotton warehouse in the Mill Gate area around 12pm. Locals called the national emergency service hotline 999. In response, eight fire service units arrived at the scene and began working to control the fire.

As the blaze intensified, four additional units from Uttara and Gazipur Modern Fire Service joined the operation. With their combined efforts, the fire was brought under control in one and a half hours. Seven surrounding warehouses were burned in the incident.

Anwarul Islam, Warehouse Inspector of the Fire Service Media Cell, said that eight units worked to extinguish the fire. There was a water shortage at the location. No casualties have been reported so far, and the extent of damage will be determined later.
