Under an agricultural incentive programme, small and marginal farmers in Gopalganj Sadar upazila received free seeds and chemical fertilizers to boost acreage and production during the 2022–23 Rabi season.

The Department of Agricultural Extension organized the distribution event was on the upazila parishad premises on Saturday. A total of 2,820 farmers received the agricultural inputs.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M Rokibul Hasan, Agriculture Officer Mafroza Akter, and other officials were present at the event.

According to Agriculture Officer Mafroza Akter, each farmer received 20kg of wheat seed, 10kg of DAP fertilizer, and 10kg of MOP fertilizer. A total of 850 farmers received incentives for wheat cultivation.

For mustard farming, 1,000 farmers each received 1kg of mustard seed along with 10kg of DAP and 10kg of MOP fertilizer.

Ten farmers received 1kg of sunflower (OP) seed with 10kg of DAP and 10kg of MOP fertilizer each, while 75 farmers received the same amount of sunflower (hybrid) seed and fertilizer.

Fifty farmers received 10kg of groundnut seeds along with 10kg of DAP and 5kg of MOP fertilizer. Sixty-five farmers were given 1kg of onion seeds and 10kg each of DAP and MOP fertilizer.

For mung beans, 110 farmers each received 5kg of seed with 10kg of DAP and 5kg of MOP fertilizer. In lentils, 330 farmers were given 5kg of seeds with 10kg of DAP and 5kg of MOP fertilizer each. Farmers cultivating grass peas received 8kg of seeds along with 10kg of DAP and 5kg of MOP fertilizer per person.

Mafroza Akter added that through this incentive distribution, farmers will cultivate crops on 850 bighas of land for wheat, 1,000 bighas for mustard, 10 bighas for sunflower (OP), 75 bighas for sunflower (hybrid), 50 bighas for groundnuts, 65 bighas for onions, 110 bighas for mung beans, 330 bighas for lentils, and 330 bighas for grass peas.

As a result, cultivation during the Rabi season will increase across 2,820 bighas of land in Gopalganj Sadar upazila, leading to higher overall crop production.
