National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser for the southern region Hasnat Abdullah has said that his party wants the upcoming parliament to represent an “anti-Indian hegemony, anti-fascist, and pro-Bangladesh” stance.
“In the upcoming parliamentary elections, we want a representative parliament to be formed — one that is anti-Indian hegemony, anti-fascist, and pro-Bangladesh. Those who consider themselves worthy of that should come to parliament,” he said.
Hasnat made the remarks as the chief guest at a coordination meeting of Comilla Metropolitan, North, and South district units held at a restaurant in the city around 9pm on Sunday.
He said many people had moved away from BNP’s main political ideology and that of its founder, Shaheed Ziaur Rahman, following the August 5 mass uprising.
“Those who feel uncomfortable in this environment, we welcome you,” he said. “We will give nominations to honest and qualified candidates in 11 constituencies of Comilla. The first phase of candidate announcements will be made by the third week of November.”
Hasnat added that the NCP would begin its organisational and election activities after announcing its candidates.
“We want the next parliament to be formed with those who are pro-Bangladesh, who believe in communal harmony, who oppose Indian hegemony, who support the spirit of the mass uprising, and who believe in reforms and the people’s aspirations behind this revolution,” he said.
