Health officials on Monday said they recorded 1,179 fresh cases of dengue outbreaks, killing at least two persons in the past 24 hours.

“We recorded deaths of two dengue patients in 24 hours ending at 8am today (Monday),” a spokesman of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said, adding his office simultaneously recorded 1,179 fresh cases of dengue outbreaks during the same period.

According to the DGHS statistics, two died in areas with the purview of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

Out of the 1,179 fresh cases, 169 patients were hospitalized in Barisal division, 151 in Chittagong division, 239 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 157 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 172 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 70 in Khulna division, 89 in Mymensingh division, 109 in Rajshahi division, 12 in Rangpur division and eight in Sylhet division, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said.

Since the start of the dengue onslaughts in Bangladesh this year witnessed so far 315 deaths while the disease has inflicted 79,722.

Dengue last year claimed 575 lives and afflicted 1,01,214 people in the country.
