The National Botanical Garden in Mirpur, Dhaka, has launched a modern online ticketing system to make entry for visitors easier, more transparent, and environmentally friendly.

The platform was inaugurated on Wednesday by Dr Farhina Ahmed, secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, during an event at the garden.

She said the initiative would play a key role in conserving natural forests and biodiversity while raising public awareness about the environment.

“Through this e-ticketing platform, efficiency in garden management will increase, and new opportunities for research will emerge,” she added.

From now on, visitors can obtain QR code-enabled tickets through the myGov online platform, www.nbg.portal.gov.bd, or the Forest Department’s website. Tickets can be displayed on smartphones or printed out for use.

The initiative is a joint effort by the Forest Department and a2i. The system allows visitors to purchase tickets from home, eliminating long queues, saving time, and ensuring full transparency in ticket sales. Reduced paper usage will also contribute to environmental conservation.

Special guests at the event included Md Abdur Rafiq, project director (joint secretary) of a2i; Shamima Begum, joint secretary (Forest) of the Ministry of Environment; and the event was chaired by Md Amir Hosain Chowdhury, chief conservator of Forests at the Forest Department. Officials from the Forest Department, a2i, ICT Division, National Zoo, Bangladesh National Herbarium, as well as media and environmental activists, attended the ceremony.

Speakers highlighted that the National Botanical Garden plays a vital role in conserving the country’s environment and biodiversity. They added that the new e-ticketing system will not only modernize visitor services but also serve as a model for digital government services in Bangladesh.
