Nasiruddin Patwary, chief coordinator of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), said the government used the president’s signature to legitimize the July Charter, adding that while the charter has a legal basis, it is not moral anymore.
He criticized that the charter favors parties like BNP and Jamaat, sidelining the broader public.
Patwary made the comments on Friday during a press conference at the party’s central office in Banglamotor, Dhaka, responding to the government’s July Charter implementation order.
He added: “The government has shown compassion, but has taken no real responsibility. The charter implementation order divides resources, like giving a spoonful of vegetables here and there, but it does not benefit the people. Through this charter, the government has appeased all political parties, but has ignored the public.”
Addressing BNP and Jamaat, he warned: “Do not turn the reform process into a tool for creating vote banks.”
Despite noting that many aspects of the government’s July Charter implementation remain unclear, the NCP views the order as a positive step.
Central leaders of the party were present at the press conference.
