Unidentified miscreants set fire to goods loaded on a parked pickup van in Ashulia of Savar, Dhaka. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday in the Bogabari area.
According to officials of the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) Fire Service and the vehicle’s driver, the driver had parked the pickup van—laden with various vegetables and spices—by the roadside in Barabari around 12:30am on Monday night and returned home.
At dawn, the vegetables and spices on the vehicle were set ablaze. Upon receiving information, two units of the DEPZ Fire Service rushed to the scene. However, local residents, having noticed the fire earlier, managed to extinguish it with water. A portion of the garlic and onions on the van was damaged in the fire.
Pranab Chowdhury, senior station officer of the DEPZ Fire Service, said they were informed around 4:30am. Two fire service units quickly arrived at the location, but the flames had already been put out by locals within a short time. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
