Nearly 300 buildings in Dhaka have been identified as risky following the recent earthquakes, Rajuk Chairman Riazul Islam said on Monday.
He made the remarks at a program in the capital.
The Rajuk chief said it would be impossible to manage post-earthquake emergencies without coordinated efforts among all relevant agencies.
He urged the government to ensure unified action.
Riazul Islam said building approvals are issued in compliance with existing regulations and asserted that Rajuk does not engage in any financial irregularities.
He said Rajuk does not prepare building plans for anyone; rather, property owners submit plans through engineers or architects with the commitment to follow Rajuk guidelines.
“If they violate the rules, the responsibility lies with the owners, who must face fines or punishment. It is not Rajuk’s responsibility,” he added.
He also noted that the lack of coordination among the city corporations, Rajuk and the fire service has resulted in “chaos” in urban management.
