A man was killed and his father severely injured after being hacked by local miscreants in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Monday night, reportedly over previous enmity.

The victims were identified as Babu and his father Kashem.

The attack occurred around 8:30pm in D Block of Dhaka Uddyan on Road No 3.

Both were rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared 26-year-old Babu dead. Kashem remains in critical condition.

Kashem’s sister, Akhtari Begum, said the conflict began earlier in the evening when Kashem got into a scuffle with a man named Rajib on Road No 4 over money.

Later that night, Rajib, along with Sabuj, Rubel, Mohon and several unidentified accomplices,  intercepted Kashem and Babu in front of their home and hacked them indiscriminately.

Family members took the two to the hospital, but Babu could not be saved.

Assistant Police Commissioner of the Mohammadpur Zone, Abdullah Al Mamun, confirmed the incident.

He said local criminals carried out the attack, leaving both father and son injured. Police have launched an operation to arrest the suspects involved.
