Sk Bashir Uddin, commerce adviser, has been granted an exemption from the murder case of Md Sohan Shah, an executive mechanical engineer at Vargo Garments Company, during the July movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam granted him exemption following an application by the investigating officer on Tuesday.

Mia Mohammad Ashis Bin Hassan, deputy commissioner (DC) of the Prosecution Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the information.

Earlier, on November 24, the investigating officer of the case, SI Md Mostafizur Rahman of RAB-3, submitted an interim report to the court under Section 173(a) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, requesting exemption for Bashiruddin.

The report stated that no connection was found between Sk Bashir Uddin and the incident, and therefore, he should be exempted from the case.

During the July movement, on July 19, Sohan Shah was shot and injured in front of a CNG station in Rampura. He later died on August 28 while undergoing treatment.

In connection with this incident, Sohan’s mother, Sofia Begum, filed a case in court on September 19 against 57 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Sk Bashir Uddin was listed as the 49th accused in the Sohan murder case, identified as an Awami League leader.
