A mother and her two children have been found dead in an apparent case of murder-suicide in Bogra’s Shajahanpur Upazila.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Khottapara Union’s Khalishakandi village.

The dead have been identified as Sadia Mostarim, 24, and her two children Saifa, 4, and Saif, 2.

Police and locals believe Sadia used a Boti to kill her children before tying a scarf around her neck and hanging herself in her house between 8am and 8:30am.

Sadia’s husband Shahadat Hossain was sleeping in the next room at the time.

Shahadat is a member of the Army and is deployed to Mymensingh. He returned home for a holiday a week ago.

Neighbours reported the incident to the police when it came to their notice. Law enforcers then recovered the blood-stained Boti from the scene. The three bodies have been recovered and sent to the morgue at Bogura’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

OC Shafiqul said Shahadat’s family initially believe the incident was motivated by family unrest.

Shahadat has been taken into custody to solve the mystery, but law enforcers are waiting to question him as he has mentally broken down since the deaths of his wife and children, the OC said.
