The Election Commission has launched postal-vote registration for expatriates via the Postal Vote BD app ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election but has temporarily suspended the process for seven countries, including Saudi Arabia.

According to initial information, the registration activities in these countries have been halted due to incomplete or incorrect address information provided by applicants. The other countries are Bahrain, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

This information was shared on Thursday by Brigadier General (Retd) Salim Ahmad Khan, team leader of the Out of Country Voting System and Implementation (OCV–SDI) Project.

Salim Ahmad Khan said: “Many voters did not provide accurate addresses while registering through the Postal Vote BD app. As a result, registration activities have been temporarily suspended in these seven countries—Bahrain, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. It is not possible to send postal ballots to voters without a proper and complete address.”

It has been learned that since the process began on November 19, a total of 53,144 people have registered as of Thursday at 1:10pm.

Among them, 44,993 are men and 8,150 are women. Ballot papers will be sent to the addresses of eligible voters in these countries within the stipulated time.

Registration will continue until December 18.
