A group of muggers intercepted a raw-goods trader in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area, assaulted him on the head and fled with 33,000 taka in cash along with his mobile phone.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening beside the Ambar Shah Mosque in Karwan Bazar.

According to available information, the injured trader is Md Liton, 45. He lives with his family in a rented residence behind the Bashundhara Market in Tejgaon’s Karwan Bazar area.

Quoting her husband, Liton’s wife Yeasmin Begum said that he buys and sells raw goods in Karwan Bazar. As usual, he left home in the evening. Later, they were informed that near the Ambar Shah Mosque, three muggers stopped him and struck him on the head with a sharp weapon. The assailants then took Tk33,000 and his mobile phone.

He was subsequently rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, she added.

Md Faruk, in-charge (Inspector) of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp, said the injured vendor is receiving treatment at the emergency department. The matter has been reported to Tejgaon police station.
