National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has expressed concern over the deteriorating health of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and conveyed sympathy to her family.

In a post from his verified Facebook account on Saturday, Nahid wrote: “Khaleda Zia is a unique inspiration for the democratic struggle of Bangladesh. She has played a steadfast role in the movement to protect the country’s independence, sovereignty, and national interests for decades.”

He added that Khaleda Zia’s “steadfast morale and uncompromising stance despite the constant torture of a fascist state clique, cycles of false cases, and political vengeance” stand as a shining example in the country’s democratic history.

“Her steadfastness, patriotism and leadership have profoundly influenced national life through the 1990 mass movement, the anti-dictatorship struggles, and the subsequent restoration of democracy. Many generations have seen her as a symbol of courage, tolerance and democratic values,” he said.

Nahid wished Khaleda Zia a full recovery, noting that at a critical moment of democratic transition — when the country is once again moving toward a democratic system — her presence and political experience remain significant for the nation.

Recalling her long contribution to Bangladesh’s democratic journey, the NCP convener reiterated his wishes for her well-being.
