In a special meeting of the Adviser Council chaired by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, rules for receiving and using foreign grants by NGOs and other private development organizations have been relaxed.

The meeting was held at the CA’s office on Saturday, the press wing of the CA’s office reported.

During the meeting, the draft of the Foreign Donations (Voluntary Activities) Regulation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 was given final approval.

The amendments have introduced changes to several provisions of the current law. NGO registration rules have been simplified, and conditions for the release of grants have also been eased. From now on, approval will no longer be required for donations up to Tk50 lakh per year. The law has been made more participatory and stakeholder-friendly.

Additionally, the draft of the Police Commission Ordinance, 2025 was raised in on Sunday’s meeting. The Adviser Council instructed that the ordinance be presented in a more detailed and revised form in the next council session.

During the meeting, Adviser for Expatriate Welfare Dr Asif Nazrul informed the council about the imminent release of 24 individuals who had been imprisoned at different times for their alleged involvement in the July uprising in the UAE. He stated that they are expected to return to the country within two to three days.

Prayers and supplications were offered for the speedy recovery of former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. Religious Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain led the prayers.
