In a thrilling encounter Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB) edged past Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) in tie breakers to lift the Platinum Cup Bankers Football 8s trophy on Friday evening.
The grand event reached an exhilarating conclusion as MTB edged past EBL in sudden death tie-breaker after battling in a gripping final which ended goalless after full time.
The high-energy encounter, drew significant attention from bankers, sports enthusiasts, and supporters of both institutions while the presence of Goodwill Ambassadors to the event Mr. Muhammad A Rumee Ali, Former Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor, and Mr. Yousuf Rahman, Former Bangladesh Cricketer along with Mr. Monirul Alam, DMD and Company Secretary to NCC Bank PLC and other top management added glitter to the finals night at Uttara KS Sector 4 Astro-Turf.
The game showcased exceptional skill, discipline, and competitive spirit from both sides. Both EBL and MTB entered the match with strong momentum from their dominant performances in the earlier rounds, while EBL—known for their tactical discipline and sharp counterattacks—looked equally determined to claim the prestigious title.

From kick-off, the match maintained high intensity. EBL applied early pressure with quick passes and organized build-ups, but MTB’s defense stood firm. As the match progressed, MTB’s attacking line created several threatening opportunities, keeping the EBL goalkeeper busy throughout.
Eventually the deadlock was broken with MTB winning 5-4 in tie breakers.
Earlier, in another evenly contested match, Community Bank PLC won the Bowl Final against NCC Bank by 2-1. Emam from NCC equalised with a cool finish as the game seemed to be headed to penalties but Community’s Ariful scored his second goal to take his team home.
Meanwhile, Brac Bank PLC finished third in the tournament and was awarded the Plate championship, followed by City Bank PLC in fourth place Plate Runnersup.
Among individual winners EBL’s Syed was named the Impact Player of the Tournament, MTB’s Shahin named Most Valuable Player while Mithun from MTB was awarded the Best Goalkeeper trophy. City’s Konok finished as the top scorer of the tournament with 9 goals.
