Two candidates were detained at an examination center in Rangpur on Saturday afternoon after they were caught using electronic devices during a recruitment test for the post of Assistant Sub-Food Inspector under the Directorate General of Food.

A mobile court later sentenced both to 20 days in jail. They were sent to Rangpur Jail following legal procedures.

The convicted candidates are Idris Ali Akand, 30, son of Abdul Bari Mia of Muriyadho village under Sadullapur Police Station in Gaibandha, and Sajjadul Islam, 24, son of Ershadul of Maltibari village under Ulipur Police Station in Kurigram.

According to OC Azad Rahman of Rangpur Metropolitan Haragachh Police Station, the examination was held on Saturday (Nov 29) across 77 centers in Rangpur city. During the exam, Idris Ali was caught using an electronic device inside his ear at the Maynakuti Senior Alim Madrasa center under Haragachh Police Station, while Sajjadul Islam was detained at the Gulalbudai High School center. Police said both were found with electronic digital devices.

Executive Magistrate Ashim Kumar Das conducted the mobile court on the spot and, under Section 188 of the Penal Code 1860, sentenced the two to 20 days of simple imprisonment for cheating in the examination.

The OC confirmed that both convicted candidates were sent to Rangpur Jail on Saturday evening.
