President Mohammed Shahabuddin’s verified Facebook account was briefly taken over by hackers but has since been restored.
The president Facebook account was hacked on Tuesday evening, prompting officials to caution the public against being misled by any posts from the compromised profile.
The breach was confirmed by the President’s Assistant Private Secretary (APS), Md Sagar Hossain, who said that action was immediately taken to secure the account.
“The president’s verified Facebook page was hacked. We urge everyone not to be misled,” Sagar told Dhaka Tribune. He added that the cyber team deactivated the account briefly to prevent further unauthorized activity.
The incident occurred around 7:15pm, when a post containing only the word “#Resignation” appeared on the account. As the account’s visibility was set to “Only Friends,” the post was visible only to those on the president’s friend list. Shortly afterwards, at 7:30 pm, the President himself posted a warning from his personal profile: “My Facebook ID has been hacked. This is to inform everyone for their awareness.”
Commenting on the suspected perpetrators, APS Sagar Hossain said: “We are investigating and trying to identify the source of the attack. We are coordinating with Meta, and our expert team is actively working on the matter.”
