The Bangladesh youth hockey team suffered a fighting 3-2 defeat to France in their third and final group match of the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup held at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai, India Tuesday.

France took an early lead in the first quarter when Gabriel scored from a penalty stroke in the 7th minute.

Bangladesh, however, fought back in the second quarter as Md Abdullah netted a field goal in the 28th minute.

France regained control in the third quarter, scoring twice within six minutes. Gabin made it 2-1 in the 32nd minute, and James extended the lead in the 38th minute, both from field goals.

In the fourth quarter, Aminul Islam reduced the margin for Bangladesh by converting a penalty corner in the 55th minute.

Earlier on Saturday, the boys in red and green suffered a fighting 5-3 defeat to a strong Australia side in their opening group match, despite a magnificent hat-trick from Aminul Islam.

Bangladesh bounced back to earn a 3-3 draw against South Korea in their second group match.

France, meanwhile, thrashed South Korea 11-1 in their opening match and went on to beat Australia 8-3 in their second outing.
