The Election Commission has extended voting time by one hour in the 13th national parliamentary election, adding half an hour in the morning and half an hour in the afternoon.
Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah announced the decision after the 10th commission meeting presided over by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka on Sunday.
Sanaullah said the decision was taken as two elections—the national parliamentary election and the referendum—are being held simultaneously. “Considering the experience from the mock voting and the field-level experiences of those who have previously conducted elections, this decision has been made,” he said.
He added: “Voting will now start at 7:30 am and continue until 4:30 pm, with half an hour added in the morning and half an hour in the afternoon.”
