Expatriate footballer Arham Islam, who previously represented the Bangladesh U-17 national team, has been named in the final Australia U-20 squad for the upcoming SBS Cup in Japan.

Arham made his Bangladesh debut when he featured for the national U-17 side against hosts Cambodia in the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers in Phnom Penh on 18 October 2024.

He started on the left wing wearing the No. 21 jersey as Bangladesh narrowly lost 1-0 after conceding a late goal.

In Australia, Arham has been part of A-League outfit Western United FC’s U-21 team. Both of his parents are Bangladeshi.

Football Australia on Monday announced Arham’s inclusion in the 20-player Young Socceroos squad for the tri-nation SBS Cup to be held later this month.

Australia will kick off the tournament against Spain on December 18, followed by matches against Japanese domestic side Shizuoka Prefecture on December 20, and hosts Japan on December 21.

Former Socceroo Richard Garcia will lead the side as head coach, with regular head coach Trevor Morgan unavailable due to his commitments as Football Australia’s Interim Technical Director, according to the FA’s official website.

The squad, selected by Morgan and Garcia, features players solely based in Australia and Japan, with 13 debutants, including Arham, earning call-ups.

Garcia said: “We will be playing some top teams from around the world, and it is a completely new squad of players looking to make an impact as they continue their development. We will be looking to see how this new group copes with a hectic international schedule and how they adjust to the demands and increased quality at U-20 level against some very strong opponents.”

Arham has been named as one of the six forwards in the squad.
