A trader named Ibrahim Hossain Jewel, 35, was attacked and injured by assailants who then fled with cash and his mobile phone in the Beribadh three-way junction area of Mohammadpur in the capital.
The incident occurred at approximately 8pm on Monday.
Jewel’s brother Sohel said that a group of 10 to 12 assailants, armed with locally made weapons including ramdas and chapatis, hacked and severely injured Jewel in front of his business establishment before snatching two mobile phones and a side bag from him.
He was rescued in critical condition and taken to a local hospital. Later, around 11pm, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the injured trader is currently undergoing treatment.
