Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that the schedule for the upcoming national parliamentary elections will be announced later this week.
He provided this information on Tuesday in response to journalists’ questions following a private meeting at the chief justice’s chamber.
Earlier, the chief election commissioner met with Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed.
On this occasion, the CEC arrived directly at the Supreme Court from the Election Commission.
As per customary practice, the CEC meets the chief justice prior to announcing the election schedule.
However, on Tuesday the CEC and his secretary attended the meeting for discussions.
It has been learned that, in addition to boundary-related cases, the meeting will address matters to ensure that no writ petitions filed after the schedule announcement can obstruct electoral activities. Furthermore, they will discuss the role of judges in performing magisterial duties during the conduct of the upcoming elections.
