A youth was shot dead by unidentified miscreants near the eastern side of Rupsa Bridge in the Chourasta area of Japusa, Rupsa upazila of Khulna district, on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Sagar Sheikh, 30, son of Foyek Sheikh and a resident of Green Bangla Residential Area. He reportedly ran a clothing shop.
According to police, a local resident, Abdur Rahman, heard gunshots around 11:00pm and immediately informed the national emergency service 999. Police were alerted and rushed to the spot.
Sub-Inspector Saurav Das of Rupsa Police Station said he was on duty in the Japusa area and reached the scene shortly after receiving the information.
Police said preliminary investigation suggests that Sagar had recently purchased land and constructed a new house in the area, which may have been linked to the killing. However, the motive behind the murder and the identities of the attackers are yet to be ascertained.
Officer-in-Charge Abdur Razzak Mir said police were conducting raids and efforts were underway to arrest those involved in the murder.
