A Dhaka court has granted a seven-day remand for Kabir, also known as “Datbhanga” Kabir, a close associate of prime suspect Faysal Karim Masud, in connection with the attempted murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman passed the order on Tuesday following an application by the investigating officer, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Ruknuzzaman of the prosecution division

According to the prosecution, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Kabir from the Fatullah area of Narayanganj on Monday (December 15) at around 3:30 pm.

On Tuesday, the investigation officer of the case, Inspector Faisal Ahmed of the DB Police Motijheel Zonal Team, produced Kabir before the court and sought a 10-day remand.

During the remand hearing, state prosecutor Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Kaiyum Hossain Nayan placed arguments in favor of remand, telling the court that Kabir supplied weapons to the principal accused, Faysal Karim Masud. He said it needs to be examined whether the intelligence agency of a neighboring country was involved with him. The prosecutor further said the accused has knowledge about the buying and selling of weapons.

The APP also informed the court that Kabir is the joint convener of the Swechchhasebak League under Adabar Police Station in the capital. He argued that if Kabir is taken on remand, all information will be revealed, and therefore a 10-day remand is necessary.

After the hearing, with the court’s permission, Kabir told the court, “I used to drive for Pathao. On the day of the shooting incident, I only went with him (Faysal), that’s all.”

The court also asked about the ownership of the motorcycle used in the incident. In response, Kabir said that his friend, Mainul Islam Shuvo, had earlier purchased the motorcycle using Kabir’s ID card. He said the ownership belongs to Shuvo, although the motorcycle was bought using his ID card.

When the court asked whether the motorcycle was registered in Kabir’s name, he replied, “No.”
