The police have recovered the hanging body of a leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP) from a hostel in Jigatola, Hazaribagh, Dhaka.
The deceased has been identified as Jannat Ara Rumi, 30.
She was the joint coordinator of the coordination committee of NCP’s Dhaka Metropolitan South Dhanmondi unit.
Preliminarily, police suspect that she committed suicide by wrapping a scarf around her neck. However, the exact reason for her death is not yet known.
Her body was recovered on Thursday morning from a room on the fifth floor of the Jannati Girls’ Hostel in the Jigatola area.
Gisanul Haque, ADC of the Dhanmondi police zone, confirmed the incident.
He told Dhaka Tribune that after receiving the news, police went to the hostel, broke down the room door, and recovered Rumi’s body hanging from a fan. The matter is under investigation.
He also stated that the body has been sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Rumi was the daughter of Md Zakir Hossain from Naogaon district.
