Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP) for the southern region, said that nothing can destroy Sharif Osman Hadi.
“Our path is not one of destruction but of reconstruction. Everyone should remain calm and united,” he stated.
He made the comments in a status on his verified Facebook account shortly after 2am on Friday.
In the post, Hasnat wrote that Osman Hadi must be preserved by taking a stand against hegemony, building a strong cultural establishment, remaining uncompromising on the question of freedom, and being honest and transparent in response to the people’s concerns.
Earlier, at 9:45pm on Thursday, Hadi passed away while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital.
On December 12, after Friday prayers, Hadi was shot in the head by one of two men on a motorcycle while he was riding a rickshaw on Box-Culvert Road in Bijoynagar, Dhaka.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, then moved to Evercare Hospital and admitted to the ICU.
For advanced treatment, Hadi was later flown to Singapore by air ambulance on Monday.
