The government has urged all citizens of Bangladesh to resist all forms of mob violence, stating that recent incidents have been carried out by a small group of fringe elements.

In a statement, the government said it strongly and unequivocally condemns all acts of violence, intimidation, arson, and destruction of property. Describing the current period as a critical moment in the country’s history, it noted that Bangladesh is undergoing a historic democratic transition that must not be derailed by those who thrive on chaos and reject peace.

The statement said the upcoming elections and referendum are not merely political processes but a solemn national commitment. It added that this commitment is inseparable from the dream for which Saheed Sharif Osman Hadi laid down his life, stressing that honoring his sacrifice requires restraint, responsibility, and a firm rejection of hatred.

Expressing solidarity with journalists, the government said it stands with the journalists of The Daily Star, Prothom Alo and New Age, who were subjected to violence and intimidation. “Attacks on journalists are attacks on truth itself,” the statement said, adding that full justice would be ensured for those affected.

The government also strongly condemned the lynching of a Hindu man in Mymensingh, saying there is no place for such violence in the new Bangladesh. It said those responsible for the crime would not be spared.

At this critical hour, the government called on every citizen to honor Saheed Hadi by rejecting and resisting violence, incitement, and hatred.
