Two cabin crew members assigned to the Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from London to Dhaka have been removed from duty.
A source at Biman Bangladesh Airlines confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune on Sunday.
According to the source, the decision was taken following intelligence reports citing the two crew members’ political affiliations and potential security risks concerning a VIP passenger.
A Biman official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the move was based on information about their political links. He added that the decision came after photos of the two crew members with Awami League leaders surfaced on social media.
The airline’s flight services department said that two new cabin crew members have been assigned in their place.
Earlier, on May 2, two cabin crew members were similarly removed from a flight carrying BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, based on intelligence reports.
It is worth noting that Tarique Rahman is scheduled to return to Dhaka from London on Thursday. The Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-202 carrying him is set to depart from London’s Heathrow Airport on the evening of Wednesday. Members of his family and senior BNP leaders will also be on board the flight.
