European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller has said that the attacks on Prothom Alo and The Daily Star are attacks on press freedom and freedom of expression.
He stressed how important it is to preserve space for free expression.
He made the comments on Sunday while visiting the Prothom Alo office in Karwan Bazar.
Michael Miller said he had come to express solidarity with Prothom Alo’s professional journalists following the arson attack on their building last Thursday evening. “As Bangladesh moves towards elections, I hope we will never see anything like this again,” he said.
He added that it was a terrible moment for Bangladesh’s democracy.
“Now you must be resilient, get back on your feet, continue publishing, continue reporting, and hold everyone accountable to ensure a free and fair election,” he said.
