Dhaka has described the incident that took place on Saturday night at the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi as extremely unfortunate and has stated that the explanation of the incident cannot be accepted as “misleading propaganda”.

In addition, the Bangladesh government has arrested suspects in connection with the incident in which a young man was burned to death. Bangladesh maintains that its inter-communal situation is better than that of other South Asian countries and believes that ensuring the protection of minorities is the responsibility of all governments in the region.

These observations were made in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Sunday, following India’s official response.

The ministry stated that the unjustified incident that occurred on Saturday outside the residence of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi was deplorable and cannot be treated as “misleading propaganda”. Miscreants were allowed to carry out their activities just outside the High Commission premises, which created panic among staff members inside the complex. The High Commission was not given prior information about the organized protest. However, Bangladesh has noted the Indian government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Bangladeshi diplomatic missions in India.

The ministry further stated that it rejects attempts by the Indian authorities to portray an isolated attack on a Bangladeshi citizen from the Hindu community as an attack on minorities.
