A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Faisal Karim Masud, the prime accused in the case filed over the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

The order was issued on Sunday by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junayed, following an application by the investigation officer.

The information was confirmed by DMP Prosecution Division Deputy Commissioner Mia Mohammad Ashis Bin Hasan.

He said the court approved the investigation officer’s request to bar the accused Faisal from leaving the country, and the order has been sent to the relevant authorities. The application was filed to ensure that the accused does not flee if he remains within the country.

According to the case statement, Sharif Osman Hadi had been serving as spokesperson of the political and cultural platform Inqilab Mancha, formed in the post-uprising period.

On December 12 at around 2:20pm, assailants riding a motorcycle shot Hadi in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan Model police station and fled the scene. He sustained critical gunshot injuries to his head and below his right ear.

He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, Hadi was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced treatment, where he died on December 18.

Following the incident, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case at Paltan police station on December 14. After Hadi’s death, the case was converted into a murder case.
