Ahead of the arrival of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, law enforcement agencies have imposed strict security measures at the National Memorial in Savar, Dhaka.
The entire memorial premises have been covered with multiple layers of security cordons. In addition to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police, members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are also on duty.
Since morning, public access to the memorial has been restricted. Journalists were allowed inside the National Memorial until 9am, but after 9:30am, no one has been permitted entry.
Security personnel from RAB, police, and BGB are also stationed at various points around the memorial gates and nearby roads to maintain vigilance.
Meanwhile, BNP leaders and activists have already started gathering in front of the memorial. At present, they are positioned near the main gate of the National Memorial.
Anwar Hossain Khan Anu, officer-in-charge of the National Memorial and Assistant Sub-Engineer of Savar Public Works Department, said public and visitor access has been closed since morning. He added that at around 3pm, the Chairperson Security Force (CSF) will review security arrangements. The memorial will be reopened for visitors after Tarique Rahman departs.
