Nurul Islam Saddam has been elected the new president of Islami Chhatra Shibir, while Sibgatullah has been named the central secretary general.
The results were announced on Friday during the second session of the Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Central Members’ Conference 2025, held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka.
A central leader of Chhatra Shibir said the results were formally declared immediately after the election of the secretary general.
Saddam, the outgoing session’s secretary general, previously served as central office secretary, central literature secretary, central planning and development secretary, central education secretary, and president of the Khulna Metropolitan unit.
Earlier, the first session of the conference took place from morning to noon, during which Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman described Chhatra Shibir as the de facto guardian of the student community.
The second session was conducted by assistant election commissioner and former central president Selim Uddin. Chief election commissioner and former central president Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand announced the results and administered the oath to the newly elected president.
Voting for the central president was conducted online nationwide from 7pm Wednesday to 10pm Thursday. In line with Chhatra Shibir’s constitution, the newly elected president, in consultation with the executive council, nominated Sibgatullah as secretary general.
Saddam completed his honors and master’s degrees in Economics from Khulna University and a degree in Finance from Northern University. He is currently pursuing a master’s in Human Resource Management at the University of Dhaka.
Sibgatullah previously served as central office secretary, central literature secretary, central publication secretary, and president of the University of Dhaka unit. He completed his BSS and MSS from the Institute of Social Welfare and Research at the University of Dhaka and is pursuing a master’s in Development Studies at the same university.
