Inqilab Mancha resumed its sit-in at Shahbagh intersection in the capital after BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman completed his visit to the grave of Sharif Osman Hadi.

Demanding justice for Hadi’s killing, leaders and activists of the platform reimposed the road blockade around 12:30pm on Saturday.

Earlier on Saturday morning, the group had temporarily withdrawn the blockade from Shahbagh due to Tarique Rahman’s arrival and security concerns. At that time, protesters moved to the area in front of Aziz Super Market at Dhaka University. Witnesses said that after Tarique Rahman’s motorcade left the area, the protesters marched back to Shahbagh and restarted the blockade.

Inqilab Mancha said it launched the “indefinite” program after Friday prayers on Friday, demanding justice for Hadi’s murder. The protesters remained at Shahbagh throughout Friday night. Amid the agitation, a large number of police and law enforcement personnel have been deployed in the Shahbagh area.

Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of the platform, said: “Our street movement will continue until justice for Hadi’s killing is ensured. We will not return home without justice.”

It may be recalled that Inqilab Mancho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi was critically injured in a shooting by assailants on Paltan’s Box Culvert Road on December 12. He was taken to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he died on December 18. A case initially filed as attempted murder at Paltan Police Station was later converted into a regular murder case following his death.
