After remaining suspended for 14 hours due to dense fog, passenger vessel services across the country, including Chandpur, have resumed.
Launch services restarted from 7am on Monday.
The sudden suspension of launch operations left passengers in distress, with many waiting at terminals for services to resume.
BIWTA Chandpur Deputy Director (Marine Safety) Babu Lal Baidya said that passenger launches and vessels on all waterways across the country, including the capital’s Sadarghat, were temporarily suspended from 5:30pm on Sunday.
The directive was issued by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).
He said the decision was taken in consultation with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department and based on its warning.
“This measure was taken to avoid the risk of accidents on waterways due to dense fog,” he added.
