Former adviser of interim government Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has formally joined the National Citizen Party (NCP) but will not contest the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.
The announcement was made on Monday evening at a press conference held at the party’s temporary central office in Banglamotor in the capital, where NCP Convener Nahid Islam said Asif Mahmud has been appointed as the party’s spokesperson.
He has also been given the responsibility of serving as chief of the party’s election management committee.
Nahid Islam said an emergency meeting of the NCP’s political council was held online earlier in the day, during which the decision to appoint Asif Mahmud as spokesperson was taken.
Nahid added that the NCP has fully entered the electoral race and that Asif Mahmud will not participate in the election as a candidate. Instead, he will work to ensure the victory of the party’s nominated candidates in the upcoming polls.
