BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman have submitted nomination papers for five parliamentary constituencies in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. On Monday, the final day for submission, the nomination papers were filed on their behalf at the respective returning officers’ offices.

Nomination papers for Tarique Rahman were submitted in two constituencies. Around 12:15pm, his nomination for the Dhaka-17 constituency was submitted at the office of the Dhaka divisional commissioner and returning officer in Segunbagicha by BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Abdus Salam, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Aminul Haque, and DAB Chief Adviser Professor Farhad Halim.

At the same time, Tarique Rahman is also contesting as the BNP candidate with the party symbol (Sheaf of Paddy) from his ancestral constituency, Bogra-6 (Sadar). Around 2:30 pm, leaders of the party led by Bogra District BNP President Rezaul Karim Badsha submitted his nomination paper to the District Administrator and Returning Officer Toufiqur Rahman.

Meanwhile, nomination papers for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia were submitted in three constituencies. Around 1:15pm, her nomination for the Feni-1 constituency was submitted at the district Returning Officer’s office by BNP Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Minto and Election Coordinator Munshi Rafiqul Alam, along with central and district party leaders. At that time, it was said that an alternative candidate has been kept ready due to Khaleda Zia’s illness.

On the same day, Khaleda Zia’s nomination paper for the Bogra-7 (Gabtali–Shajahanpur) constituency was submitted by her adviser Helaluzzaman Talukder Lalu. He said that although Khaleda Zia is currently hospitalized due to physical illness, she personally signed the nomination papers.

In addition, Khaleda Zia’s nomination paper for the Dinajpur-3 (Sadar) constituency was submitted by BNP Executive Member Syed Jahangir Alam. The nomination was filed in the afternoon with District Administrator and Returning Officer Md Rafiqul Islam.
